"African spirituality" because all African spiritual and herbal practices regardless of their ethnic origins were/are demonized after colonialism. Yes, it is true that Africa is a vast and diverse continent, but certain practices and philosophies cut across the continent--i.e. nature-based deities, ancestral reverence, and divination. This is why I make this generalization.

And no, our practice is not a 'myth' that should be discouraged. African herbal practices which stem largely from the spiritual practice have herbal wisdom that should be further researched and developed in the 21st century. This is what allowed 'Obeah men' to poison colonizers as I mentioned in the article. I assume you probably have used Aspirin before. Did you know that the formula for Aspirin originates from herbal remedies in Ancient Egypt (Willow Leaf Tea) ?
